Hello All,
This blog is about the travels of M/V DESERT VENTURE and her crew – Capt and Angie.
In the future referred to as “D/V”, DESERT VENTURE is an all aluminum motor vessel that is 54′ loa, 16′9″ beam, and a 5′ draft. D/V has twin 5.9 Cummins 300 hp turbo charged diesel engines on V-drives. She has a 20 kw generator and a very robust inverter system. Regardless of where we are – at the dock, at anchor, or underway – we enjoy a high quality of life.
The crew consists of one extremely qualified Captain and his First mate. Captain has over 4 decades of professional and leisure boating experience. First Mate is rather new with only six years of living aboard and cruising experience. You can learn rather lot in that period of time, though, and every day is a new experience when living and traveling via the water.
We cruise the west coast of America. D/V has traveled from Seattle, WA, to Astoria, OR. Then up the Columbia River for two months, before traveling down the west coast to San Diego, CA. After a year in San Diego, we traveled up the west coast to the San Joaquin/Sacramento River Delta. After a year in The Delta, we spent a winter in San Fransisco Bay, and in the spring of 2005 traveled up the west coast to the Puget Sound, San Juan Islands, Gulf Islands, Broughton Archipeligo and points between, spending the summer and fall in Washington and Canada. After wintering in Washington, we traveled up the Inland Passage through British Columbia to SE Alaska, in the spring and summer of 2006. After spending three months in Alaska, we traveled down the west coast of America and arrived in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, on December 1, 2006. We traveled approximately 5000 nautical miles in 2006, at an average speed of 7.8 knots.
We have been cruising full time for almost three years, though we have lived aboard and traveled for over five years. To get this blog up and running I will be uploading previous logs that have not been published on the web. After sending all the logs via emails to friends and family, it is time to get a more modern method of communication. And so, here we go, with Cruising logs of D/V and her happy crew. We hope you all enjoy our logs.

Great Blog Ang – You’ve worked up quite a piece of work. Congratulations.
