About D/V

This blog highlights travels of M/V DESERT VENTURE and her crew – Capt and Angie.

DESERT VENTURE (D/V) is a custom-built, all aluminum motor vessel.  She is 54′ loa, 16’9″ beam, and has a 5′ draft. D/V has twin 5.9 Cummins 300 hp turbo charged diesel engines on V-drives. She has a 20 kw generator and a  robust inverter system.  We travel at an average speed of 8.1 nm. Regardless of where we are – at the dock, at anchor, or underway – we enjoy quality of life aboard.

The crew consists of one extremely qualified Captain and his First mate. Captain has over 4 decades of professional and leisure boating experience. First Mate is rather new with ten years of living aboard and cruising experience. You can learn a lot in that time. Every day is a new experience when living and traveling via the water.

We cruise the west coast of  North America.  We have traveled up and down the west coast of America several times, going as far north as Juneau, Alaska, and as far south as Isla Barra de Navidad, MX.

We have been cruising full-time for more than five years, though we have lived aboard and traveled for almost ten years.

My mission is to stay connected to friends and followers via our blog.  We are baby boomers that live our dream.   We hope that our experiences will encourage others to seek their dreams.   If their dream is to cruise then we hope we give information that will make their experience satisfying and safe.

I now present our blog  – “Cruising Log for MV DESERT VENTURE” and her crew, Captain Bruce and Angie.

  1. Angie,

ML and I really enjoy your blogs. It takes us back to happier times.

We are so glad we were able to meet you and Bruce at Cabrillo in San Diego and only regret not having more time. We still have pictures of you on our “California Deck” drinking Champagne and eating peanuts. What fun!
