Hopefully, you found my blog because you have a love or interest in boating, cruising, or traveling to different places. Perhaps you like learning about new places and experiencing different lifestyles – ours is different! We are normal people – part of the baby boomer generation. We aren’t rich, we aren’t poor, we live on and travel by water. We love the simple things in life – friends, family, and visiting new and favorite places.
Though it may seem complicated living and traveling on the water, in many ways life is easier. We move often, never pack a single box, never give notice, call the phone company, etc. We try to make our lives as simple and uncomplicated as possible and still enjoy life. I read published boating articles related to how people survive near disaster on the water. They seem to revel in the drama, fear, and near death experience. That is not what boating is to us. We do our best to have an uneventful cruise – no high seas drama. On occasion something may arise, but due to our diligence in the planning process it rarely leads to anything remotely dramatic. My goal, here on the blog, is to offer positive information on an exciting, fun, and worry-free life style.
Many men are ready to live “the dream” that we call life. Many women fear the lifestyle. Nothing kills a new friendship faster for me, than a man saying to his wife , “Go talk to Angie. She likes living aboard.” Upon first meeting, people believe that I was born to the lifestyle, grew up on the water, and am fearless. Ha! Not even close. I am a Wyoming native (no water front property there) and lived there most of my life. If anything, I would be considered the “chicken of the sea” (but that title is already taken. Check out Margo Wood’s book.). My first introduction to living on water was on the internet, and it seemed something I could do. Then I met and married a man who has lived and worked on the water his entire adult life – and that was my introduction to Boating and Living Aboard 101. Love got me on the water. Trust and faith in my captain keeps me here.
Though I try to post regularly when we are cruising, sometimes there is a time lag – we get busy living. The best way to stay connected with us is to subscribe. You’ll never miss a post. “Thank You” to all who have subscribed!

I am VERY EXCITED to have found your blog! I am from the midwest and my better half is stationed at sea. He has grown to love the ocean and I have had my reservations. Seeing a woman who enjoys the ocean the way you has really inspired me. I keep reading and learning from your blog but have found that I am in desperate need of some training. I find myself looking up terms constantly as I read. I was wondering, can you recommend any books, websites or videos that I could access to learn the “Basics?” I appreciate your thoughts and look forward to following your blogs. Bruce/Angie – we’re heading up the coast next week (leaving San Diego on Thursday). We’re probably going to be too far offshore for you to pick us up on AIS but we’ll be watching out for you! Son Scott bought a Cruisers 51′ coastal cruiser in 2009 thinking he would have the same experience that ML and I had in San Diego. He has a home in Clearwater, FLA on the inland waterway. No such luck, $100,000 later with the boat in much better shape he sold it for a $200,000 loss! He is much wiser and now he knows what is meant by “It’s a Boat”!
